How to Run a Fundraiser on Instagram

We all have causes we care deeply about. And one great thing about social media is that platforms such as Instagram make it simple to share those causes with others.

Instagram is a fantastic place to start and share a fundraiser for a charity or non-profit. Why? First, the platform offers fundraising tools you can use to share fundraisers in your bio, in your Stories, inside Reels, and on your posts.

Secondly, Instagram is one of the most popular social media apps, used by millions of people each day. If you're looking to spread the word about your fundraiser quickly, Insta is the way to go.

In this guide, we'll show you how to add a fundraiser to Instagram and how to promote it for the best results.

How to Add a Fundraiser to Instagram

Before you can start making a difference on behalf of your non-profit, you need to learn how to add a fundraiser to Instagram. Luckily, the platform makes this really easy.

First, go to your Instagram profile and tap the "+" icon at the top of your screen. You know, the same button you use to create a new post, Story, or Reel. Next, select Fundraiser from the menu options.

In the Search non-profits bar, go ahead and search for the non-profit or charity you wish to support. Once you find the non-profit, tap it to select it.

On the next screen, you'll get to share all the relevant details about your fundraiser. You'll need to add:

  • A fundraiser photo
  • A description sharing why the cause is important to you
  • Your fundraising goal
  • Any fundraising collaborators

Once you complete these details, select Share Fundraiser from the bottom of your screen. Your fundraiser will now appear in your Instagram bio and will be shared with your followers in the Instagram feed. Cool, right?

Tip: Feel free to get as personal as possible in your fundraiser description. Share why the cause matters to you and what inspired you to get involved. Your authenticity may just inspire others to give.

How to Share a Fundraiser on Instagram

Now that you have your fundraiser created, it's time to shout your cause from the e-rooftops.

Sharing your fundraiser in multiple places helps you reach different parts of your audience. For example, your close family and friends that often view your profile will see the fundraiser in your bio. Others who may not know you personally may find your fundraiser within a post via the Explore page.

The more places you can share your fundraiser, the better your chances of reaching your goal. Let's dive into a few ways you can share your fundraiser quickly.

Sharing a Fundraiser in an Instagram Post

As we mentioned above, Instagram automatically shares your fundraiser in your feed as soon as you create it.

However, periodically sharing your fundraiser again via new posts is a great way to promote it.

For example, you could create an image with text to share on your feed with a note to check your bio for the fundraiser information.

The key here is to get creative and have fun with it. And don't forget to add some relevant hashtags!

Once you create your post, feel free to pin it to the top of your profile. This ensures the fundraising post will be one of the first things people see when they navigate to your profile and that it doesn't get buried under other posts.

Sharing a Fundraiser to a Story

Sharing a fundraiser in an Instagram Story is another way to spread the word. Better yet, it's simple to do thanks to various tools.

For example, one way to share your fundraiser via Story is to add a donation sticker. These stickers show on your Story and enable other users to tap the screen to donate.

If your goal is to create awareness about the non-profit, you can also use the Link sticker. These stickers allow users to tap the link to visit the non-profit's website. Or you can send users directly to the non-profit's website donation page, if they have one.

Sharing a Fundraiser to a Reel

Are you a fan of Instagram Reels? If so, you can share your fundraiser on your videos too.

To do so, go to your profile and select the "+" icon and then select Reel. Film or upload your Reel as you would normally, then select Next.

Once you preview your Reel and like what you see, select Next again. You'll now see your Reel options. Scroll until you see Fundraiser and toggle the switch to the "On" position.

Now, all you have to do is select Share and your donation will be shared with your Reel.
