Everything You Need to Know about Twitter Super Follows
In this article, I cover everything you need to know about Super Following someone on Twitter.
In February of 2021, Twitter announced a new feature: Super Follows. This feature allows users to charge followers for access to extra content. This exclusive content may consist of, but is not limited to: bonus tweets, access to a community group, subscription to a newsletter, or a badge indicating a follower’s support.
It’s Super Following time –– everyone globally on iOS now has the option to Super Follow select creators.

In October of this year, Twitter made the option to Super Follow select creators available to all Twitter users on iOS or Apple devices. With Super Follows open to a wider audience, how can this feature benefit Super Followers and creators incorporating a Super Following?
In this article, I'll cover everything you need to know about Super Following someone on Twitter. Let’s get started!
What Are Twitter Super Follows?
In short, Super Follows enables Twitter users (who fit a minimum criteria) to set a monthly subscription fee (up to $9.99) to monetize additional, exclusive content for their most engaged followers in the app.
With Super Follows, creators can choose to mark some tweets for subscribers only while continuing to reach their unpaid follower base with regular tweets.
Who Has Access to Twitter Super Follows?
To be eligible for Super Follows, users need to have at least 10,000 followers, be 18 or older, have tweeted a minimum of 25 times within the last 30 days, be in the U.S., and follow Twitter’s Super Follows Policy.
As of today, you must have an iOS device to purchase a Super Follows subscription. Users with Android devices will have access at a future date as Twitter continues to expand the feature.
Where Can I Find Super Follows?
Super Follows can be found by opening your Twitter App and navigating to the Twitter profile you’d like to Super Follow. If the user offers a Super Follows subscription and you already follow them, you can find the Super Follow button in the top right corner of their profile. If you don’t follow them, locate the Super Follows icon next to the blue Follow button in the top right of their profile.
When you tap Super Follow, you’ll see a preview of the bonus content they may offer to their Super Followers and the designated subscription price.
How Much Revenue Do Creators Gain?
Creators are eligible to earn up to 97% of revenue from Super Follows subscriptions after in-app purchase fees, with Twitter taking 3%.
Users who earn $50,000 can earn up to 80% of revenue after in-app purchase fees, while Twitter’s take increases to 20% of future earnings.
Can I Unsubscribe?
If you ever need to cancel a Super Follows subscription, you’ll manage your subscription from the App Store. Super Followers may unsubscribe for any reason, at any time, and must do so to ensure that they are no longer billed for the subscription.
How Do Refunds Work?
Super Follows subscriptions are final and non-refundable unless required by law.
Why Should I Super Follow Someone?
Why would anybody pay anyone just to read their exclusive tweets?
Outside of celebrities, there’s probably not a lot of Twitter users that could demand a fee for their exclusive thoughts/Tweets. Enabling Super Follows could mean essentially limiting their own exposure potential by sharing with smaller groups, as opposed to broadcasting to everyone in the app.
In addition, what’s stopping unsubscribed followers from simply getting information/exclusive tweets from those who have access?
In my opinion, nothing. However, I think that Super Follows can be particularly beneficial for interactions between news sources/journalists and celebrities, businesses, and creators. Super Following a popular figure could allow journalists to be the first to hear and report on exclusive information regarding tweets, while, at the same time, benefiting creators through subscriptions.
Even if paid tweets are being disseminated or shared to unpaid followers for free, Super Followers are still effectively the first people to witness exclusive tweets. In addition, the existence of this new monetization method creates a new way for dedicated followers to support their favorite users.
It’s also worth noting that Super Follows isn’t Twitter’s only monetization feature. Earlier this year, Twitter introduced Tip Jar which serves as a way for creators to receive one-time payments from their followers.
Twitter also recently launched Ticketed Spaces for its live audio rooms feature to let creators charge anywhere from one dollar to $999 for advanced ticketing.
